The Causes And Effects Of Climate Change Essay Example

An essay that can effectively display the writers reasoning and conjure up the readers’ mindset is one that forms its basis on content, structure, and mechanics. Hence, it is essential for an essay writer to strategically organize their concepts and consistently categorize them. In order to come up with a good topic for your essay, you can research various climate change concerns that may have occurred and choose the one that interests you. From the topic, you can formulate different concepts that you can incorporate in your essay. The topic has to be interesting; it should also be able to capture the reader’s attention. The introduction comprises of the thesis statement, which acts as an overview of the discussion that you will make in the essay. Your thesis statement should align with the topic you chose and explicitly portray your opinion. For the sample essay, the topic chosen will be the impact of changing climatic conditions on the environment and society at large.

Introduction Example

We are partly to blame for the adverse effects we are experiencing now due to the extreme changes in our climate. Scientists cannot longer predict the weather patterns accurately, the months we expect rainfall are sunny or cold. Farmers are devastated as this year they reaped very little of their farm produce, some of their food products were either damaged due to landslides or failed to reach maturity due to unsuitable climatic conditions. Meetings and conferences have been held in most parts of Africa as they try to figure out the way forward but to no avail. People are still negligent, they think it is a joke, and it’s just a phase that would soon come to pass. This is quite evident in the recent ban of charcoal in Kenya, the government of Kenya placed heavy penalty charges on people found cutting down trees and selling charcoal, all this in the effort of saving the forest cover. Despite the ban, people are still cutting down trees. The statement from the intergovernmental panel on climate change should be an awakening call for us. They indicated that the net damage costs of climate change are likely to be significant and to increase over time.

Thesis Statement Example

‘Our failure to take action is the primary cause for the adverse climatic conditions.’

The third part of this type of essay is the body, the argumentative part of your piece is presented in this part. In this section, you should ensure that your reader gets your point of logic and also your arguments. The paragraphs may introduce different points of view, though they should be a flow in your content. As you formulate the body of your essay keep in mind, your main topic and thesis statement. Facts about changing climatic conditions can be used to reinforce your main topic.

Body Paragraphs Example

Money is one of the major factors that people consider before looking into consequences of their actions on the society at large. The effort of various environmentalist and the government seem to bear little to no fruits. To most citizens, charcoal selling is their only source of livelihood, and besides that, it has proved to be one of the most booming businesses in Kenya. In addition to that, people in the timber business are still affected. Despite the restrictions on deforestation, these businesses are still operating as usual. This shows that a lot remains to be done. Climate experts stated that deforestation in most developing countries like Africa has worsened the effects of climatic change. Most lakes, rivers, and streams are drying up, less rain is experienced due to decreased forest cover. Indeed, this goes to show how human activities have a great impact on the climate.

The increased temperatures in the atmosphere are now becoming unbearable. This has been caused by the buildup of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and fluorinated gases resulting from the release of large amounts of greenhouse gases. These greenhouse gases are discharged by vehicles, industries and through various farming activities. Humans remove carbon dioxide through deforestation because trees produce relatively great amounts of carbon. Methane is added into the atmosphere through mining of coal, fuel produced from fossils, and livestock farming. Nitrous oxide is released through farming activities. There are various components of fluorinated gases such as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Refrigerators and aerosol cans have these gases. All these activities lead to an increase of these gases in the atmosphere. As carbon dioxide levels continue to grow, the atmosphere will get warmer. This will affect agriculture productivity; if the weather conditions continue to worsen, glaciers will melt and also there will be an increase in ocean temperature. Continuous growth of temperature would lead to global warming.

The last section of these essay is the conclusion part. In this section, you alert your reader that the paper is complete and you give your closing remarks. It should contain a summary of your discussion. You can conclude with what you as a writer have gained, and offer solutions or your opinion on what you think should be done.

Conclusion Example

It is quite evident that we solely contribute to the changing climate conditions, the impact of this climate changes are not amusing. A lot can be done to improve our climate conditions, strict laws can be implemented, the invention of advanced technologies that minimize the release of greenhouse gases, reforestation, reuse, recycle, driving less and use of other sources of energy. Scientists have also pointed out that climate change has been the biggest global health threat of the 21st century and it affects mainly children, low-income earners, the aged and the less fortunate in the society both directly and indirectly. We are all affected, thus we should work together to ensure we take care of and protect our environment for a better future.
